Dexter

I have already shared my ideas with my group and we're pushing them farther, but this is what I came up with.

1. What Lies Beneath (obviously horrible title, but just the idea), other possible titles under the same idea would be Below the Surface, Cutting Deeper, or A Deeper Cut
-I loved the idea of saran wrap based on how Dexter
sets up his murder scene, so i thought that a clean surface with saran wrap on it with a bloody word spelled out on top describing Dexter himself might be cool (it could say "Alone"...etc.)

-So then Josie and I discussed this and tho
ught that Saran wrap would be awesome! We were thinking of doing an ambient or guerrilla in Bart with saran wrap around the posts with bodies underneath, possibly blood pooled around the ground (she will post a better description of what we were thinking)

-I also started a print comp that showed the depth of Dexter's core. The white words all describe what Dexter wishes he was or could do and what other people see him as. Sorry the quality is kind of crappy, I couldn't load it properly.

2. Morbidly Seductive - this would show the alluring side of murder from Dexter's point of view

-this would include things that look murderous/dangerous but aren't (to mimic the opener of the show, examples are Dexter bleeding shaving, cutting fleshy ham, smothering himself putting on his t-shirt) but it would be unused ideas...

Let me know what you think

  1. I like this seductive murder thing, I wasn't sure what you had in mind when we discussed this, but i think it's a great idea and can be very interesting.

  2. They are all very clever ideas. Nice job.

    1. Saran wrap. Very cool. Would it be weird if you guys don't show any blood. To showcase that you can kill someone and be good at it without leaving any evidence. Just a thought.

Print: There's something interesting about this. Maybe adding some visuals. But I like how you describe how other people see him and the last description pays off on what the show is about.

    2. This is your strongest one. Just put a twist on the idea.

  3. The Morbidly Seductive idea is great. It follows the single idea that the show is far beyond a simple "crime drama". It is morbidly seductive. The viewers we want like the show not because it's a slasher fest (which it is not) it's smart, compelling, dark, daring, makes them ask "should I be cheering him on?"

I like the saran wrap idea as well, but worry it may get executed to "slashery". Dexter thinks through murders, and the viewers know this because he tells them.
Is it possible to incorporate his meticulous ritual in this muni idea or stretch it out beyond more media ? How he stalks the "victim," gathers information about the "victim "and proves they are a terrible criminal, injects them with whatever that is to knock them out, strip them, wraps/bounds them, waits for them to wake up, confront them with their victims, take a small blood sample, and seals the deal. How can we use Dexter's signature/"calling card"?

    Good job.

  4. I love the sarran wrap idea actually! It really sells sick killer. I think the other elements can make it seem not slasher-ish. Yeah, what if the mess was behind the sarran wrap, (even creepier & cooler when the people actaully get it) its still transparent even after layers so dead body parts and guts, etc would def show through.

  5. To my group - We have to do something with the blood slides!!! Like create something based on his box of slides Billy and Josie, maybe you could think of some visuals to go along with that...

  6. I think that we can manipulate the visuals in a way that doesn't make it slashery. Like the teacher said if we DIDN'T have blood (like the way he cuts his work so cleanly), then it is even more eerie and more his signature. Yes, will work on blood samples as well as hiding in plain sight tonight. Thanks guys for all the inspiration.

  7. Yeah, i'll work on the blood sample visuals, but i agree with Josie, i think we also have to manipulate the visuals, so it's not too slashery. Clean murder is his signature.
